Rhinebeck, New York…
The exhibition features large oil paintings of Cale’s iconic and urban figures. With broad brush strokes and bold colors, Cale paints the essence of each subject, specifically working to capture the energy of city dwellers. The artist’s perspective is informed by personal experiences in New York; Cale’s statement discusses his feeling both “enlightened” when there, and at other times, feeling “chewed up and spit out.” The dichotomy of streets bustling with people and the solitary feeling one can experience in NYC is the frame through which Cale paints his iconic and urban figures.
Cale is also actively involved in the Hudson Valley arts community, where he is a frequent participant of the annual Art Studio Views Tour, serves on the Board of Rhinebeck Porchfest, and works as the art and music writer for Living Rhinebeck magazine, which he co-publishes. He also heads up a weekly volunteer art program for residents at Anderson Center for Autism.
The exhibition will formally open with the June 1st reception, which is free of charge and open to the public. There will be live music by Steve Gravino and light refreshments provided. The artwork is on view for the month of June 2019.
